    RACE COURSE

This is great single and double track off-road running experience. The race will start on the street (required for spacing) but will soon lead into the woods. The terrain is made up of a little bit of everything, rolling hills, steep hills, double track and technical sections (rocks). We will have 1 water station at approx. 2.3 miles. If you have never visited Sawnee Mountain Nature Preserve – do it! The course is beautiful and offers something for every runner truly wishing to ´ditch the city´. Nestled in the woods of suburban Atlanta lies a true gem. Well groomed system of trails with gentle slopes and beautiful scenery will leave you breathless (if that doesn´t, the 4.0/3.1 miles will). Once you descend into the woods, you will forget your in the city. As a matter of fact, you will come to know why we follow the creed ´Ditch the City´. GPS unit measures course at 3.79 miles; Calibrated Bicycle Computer "wheel" measures course at 4.0 miles. Please note GPS Units do not capture every twist and turn in the woods as bicycle wheel does roll every twist and turn. Race will start on the asphalt near the trail head information kiosk (Spot Road Parking Lot) then lead into the woods (the total distance does include the "parade lap" around the parking lot). Race Route is in a clockwise direction... both distances 4.0 miles and 3.1 miles will stay together until 1.35 miles (course split)… the 4.0 milers will stay left and the 3.1 milers veer right at the course split... you will be gaining elevation all the way to the 2.0 mile mark then veering right headed past the "Indian Seats" and back downhill! The trail system is very wide and the surface is a combination of very easy to navigate along with some very rocky sections... (please watch your footing in the rocky sections). This course and venue is outstanding!
